 Zapraszamy na szóste spotkanie Radom Book Clubu, które odbędzie się 28 września (poniedziałek) o godz. 17:00 w Pretekście (Biblioteka Główna, ul. Piłsudskiego 12). Udział w spotkaniu jest otwarty dla wszystkich zainteresowanych, bezpłatny i nie wymaga wcześniejszej rejestracji.

Moderatorką dyskusji będzie Magda Zawadzka

Tym razem będziemy dyskutowali o książce pt.: „To o czym nie mówimy” Elizabeth Strout.

Artie Dam skrywa pewien sekret. Na co dzień uczy historii w liceum i jest uwielbiany przez uczniów. Pomaga im zmierzyć się z trudami dorastania i dla każdego ma dobre słowo. Życie dzieli z żoną, w weekendy żegluje po zatoce Massachusetts. Emanuje ciepłem i pogodą ducha, w rzeczywistości jednak zmaga się z narastającym poczuciem osamotnienia, którego nie potrafi zrozumieć. Dlatego planuje coś, co ma na zawsze odmienić jego świat.

Przenikliwa, ale też pełna czułości i humoru opowieść o miłości, stracie, relacjach z drugim człowiekiem i przede wszystkim o cichych tragediach, które nosi w sobie każdy z nas. A także o poczuciu wolności, które pojawia się, gdy zrzucimy z siebie brzemię sekretów.

 We invite you to the sixth meeting of Radom Book Club, which will take place on September 28 (Monday) at 5:00 PM at Pretekst (Main Library, 12 Piłsudskiego Street).

Participation is free of charge and does not require prior registration.

The discussion will be moderated by Magda Zawadzka.

This time, we will discuss the book “The Things We Never Say” by Elizabeth Strout.

Artie Dam is a man with a secret. He spends his days teaching history to high schoolers, expanding their young minds, correcting their casual cruelties, and lending a kind word to those who need it most. He goes to holiday parties with his wife of three decades, makes small talk with neighbours, and, on weekends, takes his sailboat out on the beautiful Massachusetts Bay. He is, by all appearances, present and alive. But inside, Artie is plagued by feelings of isolation. He looks out at a world gone mad―at himself and the people around him―and turns a question over and over in his mind: how is it that we know so little about one another, even those closest to us?

And then, one day, Artie learns that life has been keeping a secret from him, one that threatens to upend his entire world. Once he learns it, he is forced to chart a new course, to reconsider the relationships he holds most dear―and to make peace with the mysteries at the heart of our existence.
